2019-20 Jockey Club Continuing Coach Education Programme

The 3rd seminar of 2019-20 Jockey Club Continuing Coach Education Programme was held on 26th September 2019 (Thursday) to provide opportunity for accredited coach to update their professional knowledges and practical experiences. The topic of the seminar was “Coaching Learners with Special Needs”, Ms. Theresa Fung, Registered Social Worker of Hong Chi Morninghill School (Tuen Mun) and Mr. Lam Chi Pang, Vice Principal of Choi Jun School and Table Tennis Coach from Hong Kong Sports Association for Persons with Intellectual Disability were the speakers.

Firstly, Ms. Theresa Fung invited “Chung”, an athlete with autism to lead an exciting on-line quiz game using mobile phones with the coaches. Ms. Fung then gave a presentation on types and characteristics of people with special needs. “Chung” also shared as an autistic person, how sport helps to vent his feeling and build confidence. Lastly, Ms. Fung invited Mr. Man Wai Shing, member of Special Olympics Global Athlete Input Council, to share his heartfelt thoughts being an athlete with special needs.

Afterwards, vice principal Lam being a special school teacher shared the technics to coach athletes with special needs. These include identification, solving cases, strategies application, use of tools and experiences of coaches. Coaches have understand the method to enhance learning and training learners with special needs.
