Coaching Awards

Coaching Awards, an annual prestige Awards to recognise coaches for their services to sports, was first introduced in 1993.  Nomination usually begins in December and the recipients of the respective awards will be unveiled at the Coaching Awards Presentation Ceremony.  The Awards Sub-Committee, appointed by the HKCC, will select the awards recipients.  

A total of seven awards categories are open for nomination:

  • Coach of the Year Awards
  • Coaching Excellence Awards
  • Best Team Sport Coach Award
  • Distinguished Services Award for Coaching
  • Coach Education Award
  • Community Coach Recognition Awards
  • School Coach Recognition Awards

 

Coach of the Year Awards

Coach of the Year Awards are awarded to coaches considered to have best-demonstrated their ability to improve the performance of a team or an individual at the international level in the year prior to nomination. In general, nominees should also fulfil the nomination criteria for Coaching Excellence Awards as the entry requirement.  The “Coach of the Year Awards” will normally be awarded to a coach in each of the following categories:

  • Senior athletes, individual sport
  • Senior athletes, team event
  • Junior athletes, individual sport
  • Junior athletes, team event

 

Coaching Excellence Awards

The Coaching Excellence Awards will be awarded to coaches who have led an athlete or a team to the 4-point level or above as defined by Coaching Awards “Evaluation Criteria” in the year prior to the nomination. Achievements from demonstration/exhibition events of competitions will not be considered.  For Team Sports, Awards will also be granted to coaches who have led individual athletes of the team to achieve official recognition in competitions of the 4-point level or above.Official recognition includes “Most Valuable Player”, “Best Pitcher”, “Best Defender” etc.

 

Best Team Sport Award

The Best Team Sport Award aims to recognise the achievements of coaches of Team Sports. The “Best Team Sport Award” will be awarded to a coach who has led the team to an outstanding achievement as defined by the Coaching Awards “Evaluation Criteria” in the year prior to the nomination.

 

Distinguished Services Award for Coaching

The Distinguished Services Award for Coaching is awarded to the coach who have made an outstanding contribution to coaching at the national and international levels for a minimum period of 10  years prior to the date of nomination. A coach can only receive this award once every other 10 years.

 

Coach Education Award

The Coach Education Award will be awarded to the individual who have made an outstanding contribution to coach education for not less than five consecutive years prior to the date of nomination. The nominees will have to list their contribution in details and may be invited to attend an interview. Selection will be based on one’s code of conduct, initiative and involvement in designing syllabus/curriculum and his/her contribution to coach education. A coach can only receive this award once every other five years.

 

Community Coach Recognition Awards

The Community Coach Recognition Awards will be awarded to coaches possessing valid coaching certificates for the service period and have made a special contribution to the coaching of athletes/teams within the community prior to the date of nomination.The nominees should have served the community not less than three consecutive years prior to the date of nomination. Coaches can only receive this award once every other three years.

 

School Coach Recognition Awards

The School Coach Recognition Awards will be awarded to full-time teachers who have made special contribution to coaching of athletes/teams within the school sports/inter-school sports field. Nominees should have completed subject-training in Physical Education (for PE Teachers) or processes valid and related coaching certificates (for non-PE Teachers). They should also have served the same sport in the same school not less than three consecutive years prior to the date of nomination. Coaches can only receive this award once every three years.
